Summer and lash extensions are two of our favorite things. Now that 4th of July is behind us, we think it’s safe to say that Summer is finally in full swing!

We can’t get enough of lash extensions and summer! To us, summertime means long sunny days, typically spent outside being active or lounging in or next to the pool, lake or river. It means warm nights, gathered around the grill, barbecue or bonfire, and weekend camp-outs with friends. What’s not to love about Summer?

Here at The Lash Professional, we believe that the invention and growing popularity of lash extensions, has not only been one of the best trends to grace the beauty industry, but that it is here to stay. One of the reasons that we, and our clients, love lashes so much, is that it’s an overall low maintenance option to “get up and go” with little or no additional make-up needed. We have never been as happy to ditch that annoying runny mascara, as we are when the sun comes out, and everything starts heating up!

Here are a few tips to keeping your lash extensions looking fabulous all Summer long:

1) Rinse your lashes (& pat dry) after Swimming.
Over time, both chlorine & salt water can affect lash retention. So, whether you are swimming in a pool, lake or the Ocean, we recommend rinsing with fresh water post swim, and then combing through your lashes with a lash wand or patting (no rubbing!) them dry to remove excess water.

2) Avoid direct/extreme heat near your lashes.
Exposing your lashes to extreme heat can “relax” the curl, or even worse…singe the lashes! When grilling or snuggling up next that toasty campfire, make sure not to stand too close or directly over the heat, to keep your lashes in tact and looking beautiful!

3) Summer = increased activity & exercise = more sweat.
It’s pretty impossible to run around in the sun and not sweat. Sweat carries natural oils from your skin, that can run into your eyes, and affect lash retention. Here at The Lash Professional, we strongly believe in the benefits of exercise and “sweating it out”. However, to combat the effects of that sweat on your lashes, we recommend using a towel or sweatband when hitting the gym, or in extreme sweating situations (such as hot yoga) rinse lashes post workout with fresh water.

4) Keeping your lashes clean!
Being outside more – camping, hiking, swimming, etc- can lead to increased dirt & debris collecting in your lashes. We recommend keeping them clean by rinsing in the shower, allowing the water to pass through, or using our lash cleanser and super gentle cleansing brush to thoroughly clean them regularly.

5) Sunscreen application.
We believe in Sunscreen! It is an absolute MUST for all of your favorite Summer activities. However, it is important to keep in mind that many brands of Sunscreen contain oils, which when running onto the lashes, can lead to excessive shedding. We recommend taking extra care when applying your SPF, avoiding the eye area, and allowing it to fully soak in before swimming or sweating.
